Survivor Moms' Companion® Tutor Training
Survivor Moms’ Companion® Tutor Training leads to certification and a license to deliver the SMC program in your practice. It is composed of 5 contact hours of asynchronous pre-requisite reading followed by 12 contact hours of live, interactive workshops that include presentations by the trainer and simulations to practice delivering the program. Completion of the following components are mandatory to achieve certification and take on a license to be an SMC Tutor. Note that we welcome both mental health professionals and others who provide maternity care or perinatal support services.
- Pre-requisite readings. Enroll in the SMC Study Guide and complete it on your own ahead of the first training workshop. 5 contact hours.
- Training orientation. During the orientation, the Training Coordinator will support registrants in accessing the SMC Tutor Training course in the learning management system and provide an overview of what training involves, including an explanation of healthcare training simulations.
- Training workshops led by a certified SMC trainer. There are 4 live virtual sessions of 3 hours each, for a total of 12 contact hours. The trainer teaches the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for certification and delivery of SMC. Each workshop combines presentation and simulation. (Note that 2-day in-person workshops can be provided for large groups.)
- The Implementation Meeting. During this meeting the SMC Staff will provide an overview of how to begin integrating the SMC into your practice, including starting with a training case.
