The Fitting Room
Imagine the last time you tried on clothes. Did you ask yourself any of the following questions:
- Does this fit?
- Is this my style?
- Will I really wear this?
Just like trying on clothes, these are questions you might want to ask about the Survivor Moms' Companion to see if it is the right fit for you right now.
One of your first questions might be, what is the Survivor Moms' Companion?
The Survivor Moms' Companion, the "SMC" as we call it, is an education program. It's a pregnancy, birth and parenting education course - but it takes your trauma issues into account.
You might ask "How do I know if I am a survivor mom?"
A survivor mom is our name for any mom, or soon-to-be mom, who has some abuse or neglect in her childhood.
By "abuse" we mean events that happened to you in your family that were harmful to you emotionally, physically, or sexually, and that still affects you sometimes.
Do you have a sense that some past things will come to mind as you cope with pregnancy, birth or parenting? Have they already?
Does viewing yourself as a survivor mom feel like an ok fit? Maybe you don't love the idea, but does it seem at least a little bit true for you?
